I was recently introduced to the New Cid range and I haven’t looked back since. I think they might just be my new favourite makeup brand! Read on to see why.
i-glow (Shimmery blush) in Coral Crush
When I first starting seeing this on blogs I fell in love. I knew I needed it in my life and I absolutely adore having it in my possession. Its absolutely stunning and just perfect for all year round! Its a shimmery rose gold blush with golden veins running through it which gives you the most beautiful glow. I’m ill at the moment (I have a cold) but I’ve been wearing this daily and it’s really putting the life back into my dull face. The compact is handy as it has a big mirror inside. I just love this blush, it retails at £24, which is pricey but I suspect its going to last forever as its domed shaped and I haven’t even made a dent it yet. Its also nice and pigmented so you don’t need to use lots!
i-smoulder (Smokey eye pencil and shadow) in Ember
Seriously now, New Cid have got it going on. This product is just GENIUS! So it has a kohl pencil on one side (shaped skinny one side and thick the other as you can see in the photographs above – perfect for achieving thick or precise lines, see swatches for proof). And then an eyeshadow on the other end, already on a sponge for easy application! What more can you ask for!!!? There is a pressed eyeshadow powder in the lid of the sponged side so that every time you close it and open it, its ready to go and coated with shadow.
These smoulder pens come in ten different shades, ranging from silvers to purples to blue. What I love doing is applying the shadow all over my top lid, then lining my eyes with the pencil. You can even apply the pencil and then smudge the shadow over the top for a gorgeous and easy smokey look. £17.50 – great investment I think, especially for when your travelling, you don’t have to carry around multiple products.
i-flick (Double ended liquid and kohl liner)
Why isn’t every makeup brand doing this?! Another genius product, a liquid and kohl liner in one, pretty self explanatory but incredible for someone like me who uses both liquid and pencil eyeliner daily. This has really helped me narrow down my makeup bag when out and about. The liquid side has a felt tip like nib, but better because its moveable so it allows you to easily line and follow the shape of your eye (if that makes sense?). £18.50 and only available in black I believe.
i-groom (Eyebrow grooming pencil)
My new favourite eyebrow grooming product. This has a eyebrow pencil on one side and a grooming brush on the other. Normally I just pencil my brows in and always forget to comb them because I can’t be bothered digging the comb out, but with this it makes it so easy as they are together. This only comes in ONE shade (Neutral), and it apparently matches everyone! I think this is true – my eyebrows are really dark and it still fills them in perfectly. The pencil has a waxy texture so your brows stay in place all day and its very gentle so its almost impossible to over do it with this, but easy to build up. Again, a slanted pencil so that you can achieve thick or skinny lines. £15.50.
i-gloss (Light up gloss with mirror) (shade Honey Pot).
I think this may be the prettiest lipgloss I own. I have the shade ‘Honey Pot’ which is absolutely perfect for everyday use because its neutral but with gorgeous gold shimmer undertones to it. The applicator is a brush instead of a sponge which is fab and the brush also lights up when you apply it for easy application (you can see the lights in the photograph above!). The case also has a mirror on the side. I’ve been trialling this on top of every lipstick I own and it suits them all. £16.

What I think: If you can’t tell by all my gushing I am now a complete New Cid Cosmetic fan, I honestly can’t find any faults with any of the products I have tried.
The fact that they are all perfect for use on the go is just perfect (especially for me who travels between my flat in London & my family home in Essex every week). The prices may look a bit expensive at first, but if you think about it you’d probably pay £10 for an eyeshadow and £6 for a kohl pencil anyway.

Ever since trying Sleek’s gel eyeliner a year ago (review here), and having great results from it, I’ve been looking for another one that is preferably a little more higher end so that it doesn’t dry out so quickly. I decided on MAC’s Fluid line gel liner in Blacktrack after reading loads of great reviews on it. I’ve been wearing it for the past two weeks now and here is my verdict.
I’ll be upfront and honest – I’m disappointed.
The formula is quite different to Sleek’s £5 one, MAC’s is a lot creamier and softer which is good because I think it will last longer before drying out in the pot, but because of this it just doesn’t last on my eyelids. I have never before had a problem with an eyeliner fading so fast on my lids and this has really shocked me. I’ll put it on in the morning, and two hours later it’ll just be a slight blur of a black liner and the flick would be half disappeared for sure.
I also can’t get a nice flick with it, probably because of the consistency/formula, where as I used to achieve the most lovely flicks with Sleek’s. Maybe I’m just using it wrong but to be honest I have the right to be fussy because it is £13.50 which I think is quite expensive for an eyeliner. I wouldn’t repurchase this, instead I’d prefer to try another brand – I’m already eyeing up New Cid Cosmetics gel liner which I’ve tried on the back of my hand and it stayed on for a whole day.

I feel like the older I get, the worse my memory gets!! I can’t remember much of January already and I’ve been so worried about forgetting everything that I’ve been writing in my journal lots, just to remind myself of all the things I’ve been getting up to! Is anyone else having this problem? I had to think long and hard about what products I’ve been enjoying using the most this month, but I finally remembered, haha!
Stargazer Nail varnish – Still obsessed with nude natural nails, I found this in New Look and have been wearing it ever since. One coat is natural looking, two coats gives you a nice natural colour but you can still see the white of your nails through it which is a nice touch – they don’t look too mannequin-like. I know it will go with everything I wear so I’ve had no reason to take it off! Will post swatches soon!
MAC Peaches Blush – I’ve wanted this blush for ages and I’ve been wearing it all January. Its so so pigmented so I know this is going to last me forever before hitting the pan, and the colour is just gorgeous. It really is just an orange peach shade, which will look lovely in spring/summer too!
MAC Morange Lipstick – The only red I’ve been wearing all month, you can lightly dab it on your lips for a flush of orange-red, or you can layer it up for a stunning, glamorous look.
MAC Please Me Lipstick – I find this very easy to wear no matter what colours I decide to use on my eyes, it goes really well with either brown or black eye shadows. I actually think this colour would suit anyone!
MAC Select Cover-up Concealer in NC15 – My skin has been pretty terrible lately due to trying out new skin care products and stress of my last term at University and this little concealer has been a lifesaver. Its really pigmented so you only need a tiny amount and I just pat it directly onto any redness or spots and they immediately vanish. It doesn’t work as well when you just rub it into the skin, so try patting it on instead! Will definitely be purchasing another when I run out.
No7 Smokey Eyeliner Brush – I managed to get around 5 of those Boots vouchers in January and I only used one of them – stupid huh! I got this brush with my voucher and so I only paid something like £1.64 for it, and its quickly become my favourite brush. Its perfect for adding a darker colour to the crease of my eye and for applying powder shadows around my eyes to line them. Love it!
The Body Shop Black Liquid Liner – My staple liquid liner! I forgot how much I loved this product until I used a Rimmel liquid liner for a whole month before realising it just wasn’t as good as my trusty TBS one. The black is the most perfect black, the nib of the liner is great and it lasts pretty well on my eyes.
I apologise for the amount of MAC products in this post – I understand that its not very affordable, but I’ve really adored these products this month! But don’t fret, I’m still a high-street make-up lover at heart!

I apologise for being a bit late on this one, but it took me a while to narrow down all of my favourites from the past year. I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten to include some super 2010 products but when I happen upon them I’ll do a post!
So here are my favourite products, new and old, from 2010.
Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo – I don’t know how I would have survived 2010 without this product. I probably went through about 15 of these cans; I’ve never repurchased a product more than this. It keeps my hair smelling fresh and looking clean, it gets rid of my greasy roots if I don’t have time to wash my hair on those busy uni days.
Flirty Body Spray Superdrug – Cheap and cheerful, these scents last so well on my skin and clothes and they instantly put me in a good mood when I spritz them. The only body sprays I’ve used since I was 15, and I’ve already got through four of them in the past three months.
The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Monoi Miracle Oil – My favourite body moisturizer and multiuse product of 2010. Keeps my skin feeling soft, my hair feeling silky and I even used it as a massage oil last week. Smells beautiful, lasts me ages, such good value.
Prive Shine Serum – Only discovered this in the latter half of the year but I don’t know how I controlled my locks without it! Its full of organic ingredients and controls my shine and makes my hair feel SO soft. Will definitely repurchase.
Freederm - Has kept my skin in control all year, whenever I felt like I was getting a spot I’d apply this and it would vanish in half the time that it normally would. About to purchase my third tube of this stuff! I’d recommend it to people who get pimples from stress!
L’Oreal infallible foundation in Porcelain - The foundation I knew I could rely on all year round. So happy that I know have a foundation that I know matches my pale skin tone perfectly. Lasts well on my skin and isn’t too pricey for a good foundation.
MAC Zoom lash black fast – My new favourite everrrrrr mascara! Discovered this when the MAC Venomous Villains collection came out, and I haven’t stopped using it since! Makes my lashes long and voluptuous, a definite favourite discovery of 2010.
Bunny Rouge As if it were Summer Still… Bronzer - Words can’t describe how much I have totally fallen for this bronzer. Before I got this I had never ever worn bronzers because I couldn’t find one that didn’t make my pale skin look orange – but this has totally exceeded all expectations. It makes my cheekbones look bronzed, it contours really well and lasts a surprisingly last time on my face. You only need a little and the packaging is fab – I totally recommend this. Its pricey at £44 but I’ve already saved up for and bought another because I love it that much.
YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick #13 Peach Passion - Absolute lipstick gold dust. The most perfect summer colour for me, has an incredible silky feel to it, beautiful packaging, I couldn’t possibly ask for more in a lipstick. I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer so I can wear this with a cute denim jacket and flip flops!
Estee Lauder Crystal Baby Lipstick – My absolute perfect nude lipstick. It smells beautiful, lasts well, keeps my lips soft and I know I can wear it whatever my mood.
MAC Ever Hip – I couldn’t wait for the Liberty of London collection in 2010 and I knew I had to get this lipstick. This was the product that converted me to a peachy pink lover. Stunning colour, cute packaging, I wish it wasn’t limited edition.
The Body Shop Lip Liner in #10 Pink Brown – My perfect lip-liner, matches my lips perfectly and has lasted me all year.
Topshop Nice N’ Neutral Nail Polish – 2010 saw me being a bit less adventurous with my nail colours and I decided that I really adored pretty, clean, neat, nude nails. This is my favourite nude polish. I love the whole makeup range that Top Shop launched in 2010, I’m looking forward to their 2011 products!
Stargazer Holographic Glitter – This is my must have for nights out on the town. Holographic glitter that I applied on various special occasions on top of my dark smokey silver eyes. I also started experimenting with sprinkling this over nail varnish in 2010 and it looks really cute – will do a tutorial soon! This glitter is stunning, versatile and soooooo affordable!
The Body Shop Blusher in #05 – My favourite and most worn blusher of 2010, looks like a natural contour/flushed colour on my cheeks.
The Body Shop Hemp Lip Balm – I bought this a while back and recently rediscovered it, and it has kept my lips soft all through the winter months. I really recommend this lip balm and will continue using it throughout this year!
Bourjois Effet 3D Les Nudes Lip-Gloss in #34 – I discovered this gloss last year and its become a firm favourite, actually, its become my favourite lip gloss ever. Smells incredible, isn’t sticky or tacky at all and matches my lip colour.
GOSH Velvet Kohl Eyeliner in Black Ink – My staple black kohl eyeliner, I use this every single day and I adore it. Its really pigmented, its soft so it doesn’t drag on the skin around my eyes and sharpens really easily and without mess.
Sleek Storm Palette – This deserves the palette of the year award in my opinion, I just adore it. All the colours are stunning and pigmented, its so affordable at under £6, and has lasted me almost all year (I’ve just purchased a few back ups which I’ve started using!). When going on holiday in ‘10, this was always a staple in my make up bag and it didn’t take up any room at all. Everyone should own this!
MAC Nylon Eyeshadow – My absolute favourite highlight eyeshadow and one which I wear daily, it really suits my pale skin and also goes well with any other eyeshadow, no matter what the colour.
MAC NC15 Studio Finish Concealer – I don’t know how I ever lived without this concealer in my life (as dramatic as that sounds!). I used to use stick concealers which just dried my skin out and never matched my skin colour exactly, but this is just perfect. The perfect amount of coverage as well, I use this on all problem areas on my face almost everyday, and often without the use of foundation.
LUSH Honey I Washed the Kids Solid Perfume – My favourite perfume which was discontinued in 2010, which I’m gutted about, but I managed to stock up on a few before they all disappeared. I adore the sweet smell, and the fact that its a solid perfume meaning it lasts forever and also is small enough to keep in my purse to apply on the go. LUSH, please bring this beauty back soon!!
Lily Lolo Mineral Foundation in Porcelain – I stocked up on these in 2010 and use it when my skin isn’t being ‘naughty’. Its really light but the coverage is buildable, you get so much product in each pot and its been lovely at setting my makeup.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Night Cream – I have used this daily in either the morning or evening throughout the year and its kept my skin moisturized and soft and it has never given me spots. I can’t fault it and I’ll continue using this throughout next year!

I’ll admit that I didn’t own ONE piece of Benefit makeup until a few months ago, and I’ve somehow become equipped with these items over the past months through various reasons – presents, magazine giveaways and sales! I now have a nice little benefit stash which I quite like!
It Concealer stick – I’m really impressed with this concealer, I automatically thought it’d be too dark for me but the colour is surprisingly good for my skin in the summer when I have caught some sun. Good medium coverage, nice and easy application in a crayon format.
Eye Bright stick – I nearly always wear black kohl in my waterline so I use this rarely. Sometimes I pop a tiny bit on the inside corners of my eyes just to widen them. Looks nice on the waterline but I need to get used to not having black on!
Bad Girl eyeliner stick – Nice fat kohl black eyeliner. Sometimes I think this is slightly too chunky to use day to day but its perfect for dramatic smokey eyes in the evening. However, I find that this smudges quite a bit throughout the day compared to my usual Gosh black eyeliner, which is good if you want a smokey rock chick look, but can get messy. It could do with better lasting power.
“That gal” brightening face primer – I adore the packaging of this, its so cute and retro! I love the idea of the product – a brightening primer and I’ve been experimenting with how I use it. I think your supposed to wear it underneath foundation but I really don’t notice much of a difference when I do! I most like using this as a pink highlighter on my cheek and brow bone. Its a really pretty sheer pink colour which isn’t too noticeable blended out, so its nice and subtle for every day wear. For £22 I think its overpriced though, it’s not a must have.
Bad Gal Lash mascara – I haven’t used this yet!!!! Shock horror! I’ve been loving my MAC Zoom lash and TBS Super Volume too much, so I will open this up once they’ve run out and I’ll do a big review on what I think of it! I’ve heard so many different views on this mascara so I’m excited to make my own opinion on it. The review will contain before and after pictures obviously!
Stay Don’t Stray eye primer - I didn’t think I’d ever use another primer other than UDPP but I’ve used this a few times for work when I’ve forgotten to pack my UDPP when I travel back to Essex. It’s actually not too bad, it holds my eyeshadow well, but it just doesn’t make the shadows ‘pop’ as much as the Urban Decay one does! I will use this all up though and the sample size is perfect to carry around when travelling.
What I think about Benefit & their products:
I adore going past Benefits stores and stands as its always so neat, colourful and vibrant and the packaging makes me want everything, although I don’t think the actual products are any better than normal high street makeup brands. I definitely think it is the packaging and style that makes it popular, but nothing is that amazing, in my opinion. This may be because I’m bias because I think its quite expensive for what it is, I think its the packaging which you’re paying for. Saying that, I’ve only tried the products above, I’ve never tried their famous blushers or bronzers so I might be wrong!

I’ve been lusting after this little baby for ages, but my local Superdrug was always out of stock of it, until one day two weeks ago. I obviously snapped it up and couldn’t wait to try it out!
I was instantly impressed with this product and its become a staple in my make-up bag. I’ve never used a brush to draw on my liquid liner – I’ve always only used the little nib that came with liquid liners in the past. I find the brush allows me to create looks of different types of flicks on my eyes, different sizes of lines and generally it gives me more freedom to play around and create different looks.
I’ll show you two simple ones that I’ve been doing recently with this.
Top lip-lined -
Sexy flick! -
Its so so easy to create a lovely sleek flick with the brush that's included, and I just adore painting the gel liner on, instead of just drawing it on with a nib.
There are a few things that do bug me about this product though – 1) It doesn’t last all day – it tends to smudge and rub off into the crease of my eye, even when I apply UDPP and eye primer. 2) The brush included obviously isn’t going to last long, its gotten really stiff already, meaning I can’t get all the freedom I want from it all the time. 3) The gel formula is odd, I can’t explain it, but it isn’t smooth when its on the brush – its kind of clumpy, excess product gets on the brush if you know what I mean?
For £4.50, I really can’t complain though. The outcome of the look massively outweighs all the cons and I still adore this little gem. I’m really glad I bought this product as it has become a favourite in my makeup bag and I would definitely recommend it to all my friends.
And, get this – since I have been wearing this, my Dad, on two occasions now has complimented me on my ‘eyelashes’. Hahahaahah! The first time he said ‘Your eyelashes look really long and pretty today Katie, extended on the outside’!
The second conversation went like this
Dad: You’ve done that thing with your eyelashes again, haven't you Katie? It looks really nice.
Me: You mean my eyeliner, Daddy?
Dad: No, your eyelashes…
Me: DADDY! That's my eyeliner – I’ve just been doing it differently *I then close my eyes to show that it is drawn onto my top lid'* SEE!
Dad: Ohhhhhhhhhhh! It looks really good!
Hahahahaha Bless him!!! See, even the men have noticed the difference!

I adore glitter, I think every girl does, so its no wonder glitter eyeliners are a big success. Almost every make-up brand now includes glittery liners, which is good for being girly, but bad for our purses! Here are the few I have -

I bought the Urban Decay liners when they were all the rage (back in 07?). I went to New York with my family for my sisters 16th and I made sure to pop into Sephora and pick up these three liners, they came in a pack for like $21? Anyway, I used to adore them as back then they were the only good glitter liners and they looked stunning on the top lash line, but now I think although the colours are gorgeous, they just aren't as good as others. The consistency isn’t great, you have to apply lots of layers to get a good coverage of glitter (you can see in the swatches that they are patchy – even with four layers!), they kinda feel quite weird on the eye lid – a bit itchy? So I don’t use them often, but I still love them for the packaging and because of how beautiful they look in the tube!
The silver TBS liner is my favourite glitter liner and the one I use the most. I have like, 3 of these as backups and I adore them so much. The swatches here are with just one fat brush stroke and you can see how much glitter and product you get out of it! I think the difference here (compared to the Urban Decay ones) is that the formula has more liquid in it – not just glitter – so you can get a nice pigmented application as it is all mixed into one, if that makes sense? The gold one is beautiful as well – though the formula tends to separate in the tube which isn’t great, you have to shake it up before use, its a tad watery as well. The other gold one was a limited edition one a few years back. I honestly don’t wear it much but I need to start as its beautiful.
I’ve also included my favourite ever glitter product – TBS sparkle roller ball. This stuff is just incredible, its fine fine glitter, in a roller tube, which covers you in a beautiful shimmery, sheer sparkle, and it stays on the skin! It isn’t a liquid, its literally just a fine shimmer, which you would expect to fall off, but it stays on the skin which is fab. All of the TBS ones are limited edition and only come out at Christmas, which is a shame, so hopefully next Christmas they will bring out some more!
Does anyone else agree with me about the Urban Decay liners? They may even have improved the formula since, I’m not sure! And who else loves the TBS liners? What other brands should I look out for, who have glitter eyeliners?

Hi girlies! I had to tidy my room today as my landlord is visiting the flat on Friday, and whilst I was at it I decided to tidy my make-up drawers! I dug out my pencil eyeliners to show you and review!
I haven't got many, considering I wear eyeliner every day and compared to some people, but I like the few I have.

I will go right ahead and say my favourite is the Gosh black one. I’m on my third pencil of this, and I use it everyday, with whatever look I decide to go for. I have this thing where I’m so used to wearing a kohl eyeliner, that without it my eyes look tiny and I hate it, so I always wear eyeliner. This is my favourite as it is so smooth and pigmented, it doesn’t drag my skin, the colour is the perfect black, it lasts all day and it only smudges if I do so myself (with a smudger brush!). Gosh always has 3for2 offers on, so I usually pick out two of these and something else that I haven't tried before.
The Body Shop colourful ones are stunning, the shimmer and shine and are gorgeous to look at. I use the steel a lot when doing silver smokey eyes. The colourful ones are beautifully pigmented and are very smooth to apply, they can be a bit of a pain to sharpen sometimes though. The black and white ones arn’t as smooth to apply as the shimmer ones, but they are still intense colours which I love. I always use the white one to highlight the flick of liquid liner on the top lash line (I will show you in pictures what I mean soon!). Does anyone remember when a magazine (was it Instyle mag?) was giving away two TBS eyeliners? That's when I got most of these, I picked up two magazines especially!
I was after a bright bright blue eyeliner after seeing a picture of a girl with smokey black eyes, but with bright blue liner, and it so worked! I adore this liner, although I admit I don’t use it as much as I would like too. This lasts a very long time, its bright and vibrant and pigmented! Plus, its affordable being Barry M!
