Creating your own hair style with hairpieces

Sometimes you might need a little help with your hair. Maybe it won't go the way that you want or it won't stay put.

That's why hairpieces and clip-in extensions were created. See example, left, where a hair piece can be attached to a high ponytail for a very neat look.

Hairpieces can be purchased to match the color of your hair or can even be ordered or matched to any color you might want.

For more great hair style examples, visit The Hair Resources Hair Styles Gallery.

Prom Hair Styles

It is not too early to start looking for a prom hair style. If you already have your dress picked out or even purchased, then you should start looking for just the right hair style.

Christina Aguilera, left, has a great curly hair style that would work great for a prom look. You can add a decorative barrette, maybe with a few small flowers.

To create the all over curly hair style, apply a curl-enhancing hair product all over the hair and blow dry using a diffuser attachment.

To add all-over curls, use a small to medium barrell curling iron, alternating the curls throughout the hair. Hot rollers are also an option to create the curls. Always allow the hair to completely cool before positioning any curls.

Long Bangs

Posted by mickung

How to make a good hair style great

Sometimes you just need to tweak your hair style a little bit to make it look totally awesome. Here is a great example, see photo left, of how adding bangs to your hair style make your facial features stand out.

These bangs are very long, past the eyebrows. They work great to camouflage a high forehead and draw attention to other facial features.

Notice how the hair is partially pulled back and sparkly earrings are added to finish off the touch.

Drew Barrymore Hair Styles

Long and soft curls are in style today. Many celebrities are showing off their magnificent curls. Drew Barrymore, pictured at left, is wearing a great curly long hair style that is just the right shade of hair color.

To create this style on your own, apply a styling cream or curl-enhancing cream throughout your hair. Blow dry the hair using a diffuser attachment and your fingers to shape the hair.

If you do not have naturally curly hair, you may need to add soft waves throughout using a curling iron.

Spray the hair with some shine serum and/or finishing spray to make the hair appear extra shiny!

Medium length hair styles

Different ways to wear medium hair styles

Our November 2006 Hair Styles Collection features several medium hair styles with choppy layers that can be worn straight or curly.

Nicole Ritchie gives us two great examples of different ways to wear the exact same hair cut. In the curly hair style, the hair is full of soft wave throughout.

In the straight hair style below, the hair is flat ironed so smooth and straight that you can hardly see all of the layers in the hair.

To create the curly hair style, add a curl-enhancing gel throughout the hair and blow dry using your fingers and a diffuser attachment. Apply all over curls using a medium barrel curling iron or hot rollers. Since the curls are loose, you will not need to keep the curling iron in your hair for very long.

To create the straight and smooth hair style, apply a straightening cream throughout the hair and blow dry with a large round brush or a large paddle brush. Apply a heat protectant hair product to the hair and flat iron the hair from roots to the ends.

Two great hair styles, one hair cut. Thank you Nicole Ritchie for your fabulous hair style fashion examples!

Hair Styles with Bangs

Bangs are coming back IN Style in a big way this fall and coming winter. Different variations of medium to long bangs, wispy to fringe bangs are showing up everywhere in the celebrity world.

Check out the hair style above, that is featured in our November Hair Styles Collection, online at http://www.hrhairstyles.com/hair_collections.htm

The bangs are just touching the eyebrows and the are not exactly a straight across bang. The ends are slightly notched and they taper downwards on the sides.

These types of bangs are great for covering a high forehead and drawing attention to the eyes. See how Selma Blair's eyes just stand out now with these bangs?

Finding a Beauty Salon

Sometimes it can take several visits to a salon to feel comfortable with getting your hair done. Everyone has bad days, including stylists, so the process of finding YOUR salon can be challenging.

Here are a few tips to finding the salon that works for you. Before visiting a salon, consider these points:

1. Is the price range for salon services out of your price range? If the price for a hair cut and style is too high for you, maybe ask if you can just get a hair cut without the style. Some salons will offer a la carte services. If you do this, be sure t0 ask the stylist for tips on styling your hair at home.

2. Do you know of anyone that has gone to this salon? Many times the best way to find a new salon is from other people. If you like someone's hair cut, ask them where they get it cut.

3. Visit the global salon directory at http://www.hairresources.com/salons.asp for help in finding a salon anywhere in the world. Salons or stylists that have received 3 or more complaints are removed from the directory.

For more details on selecting a salon, visit our many hair resources at www.hairresources.com

Johnny Depp Hair Styles

Posted by mickung
Johny Depp is Best Hair Style of the Week

Johnny Depp has a very unusual hair style in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. But that is not the winning hair style we are talking about. His 'off-screen' hair style is a long, layered hair style that lays just right and has a shine to it.

Photorazzi/
To create this long, layered men's hair style, apply a curl-enhancing cream or gel throughout the hair. Blow dry the hair using a diffuser and your fingers to style. Johnny Depp appears to have a natural wave in this hair. If you do not have natural wave, you may need to hot appliances to create the wave.

If you hair is not as long as Johnny Depp's, you can always get hair extensions! Hair extensions involve attaching human or synthetic hair to your natural hair for a free-flowing look that can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the type of extensions you get. More and more men are getting hair extensions today.

Until next week, Have a great hair week!

Keira Knightley Updo Hair Styles

This weeks best hair style of the week is Keira Knightley's sexy updo hair style. Her hair is fairly short, so this great updo was easy to create. If you have longer hair, you may need to pull most of your hair back and twist it into a low chignon. Then you would pin pieces of hair from the front separately into the chignon.

From short to medium length hair styles and even updo and long hair style, Keira Knightley looks great. Her recent movie, Pirates of the Caribbean shows her mostly in a long, wavy hair style.

Until next week, Have a Great Hair Week!

Photorazzi/Janet Mayer

Nelly Furtado hair styles

Nelly has not only mastered her vocal chords, but also her hair style. Her long curly hair looks great, very healthy and particularly shiny.

To create this hair style on your own, you will need a long layered hair cut. If you notice in her photo, the long layers start around her ear level and taper down to the ends.

If you do not have naturally curly hair, you may need to get a perm. You can, however, create this style with the use of hot tools available on the market today. For example, the curls can be created by using several different sizes of curling irons. Perhaps a small barrell and a medium barrell. For added styling power, apply a curl-enhancing gel or cream before blow-drying with a diffuser. Just use your fingers to shape and define the curls.

Until next time!

Best Hair Styles June 19, 2006

The best hair style this week is Heather Locklear. Her signature long layered hair style is always in style and it suits her very well. Long layered bangs also add depth and highlight her facial features.

To get this hair style ask for a long layered hair cut.

Best hair styles of the week - June 12, 2006

Jenna Elfman hair styles

This half updo, slightly messy updo is a great style for any formal occasion. Contrary to past formal styles that dictated neatly coifed hair, the messy, undone look is now the chic formal style.

To create this look on your own, apply a styling cream throughout the hair and blow dry using a large round brush. Part the hair deep on one side, straightening the top of the hair. If you have difficult hair, you may need to run a flat iron over the top part of the hair.

Loose waves can be created on the ends of the hair using a curling iron.

Gently back comb sections of the crown area to create a little height. Smooth the hair on top with your fingers, pulling back hair from ear to ear into a loose low ponytail in back. Attach a jeweled pony tail holder or decorative hair piece for added elegance.

Finally, position the loose curls and spray all over with a finishing spray to keep all hair in place.

Until next week, Have a great hair week!

Hottest Summer Hair Styles

Posted by mickung
What are the hottest summer hair styles for 2006?

There are 4 top hair styles that are sizzling this summer and everyone is running to their favorite hair stylist with photo in hand trying to capture one of these fantastic looks.

1. The short shaggy crop. This short hair style is chin length, layered with a tapered back. Long side-swept bangs are also a feature of this style. This style will work best on straight hair, since there are many long layers that need to lay flat. If you don't have straight hair, that doesn't mean you can't get this style. It simply means, be prepared to do a lot of styling to get it to look great every day.

2. The long and curly look. This style has been popping up everywhere. Some have even opted to get hair extensions to create this beautiful look. Long layers are the secret to achieving volume in this hair style. Long loose curls are typically added using a curling iron. Yes--this means a little bit of styling time involved. But if you can spend the time, the results are definitely worth it.

3. The shoulder length blunt bob. Nicole Ritchie and Jessica Simpson have shown us the right way to wear a bob. To achieve this great medium length bob, get your hair cut blunt and texturized just above the shoulders. This style also has a full bang that is blended into the cut.

Photorazzi/Janet Mayer

4. The long layered shag. This is a long version of the short shag. Graduated layers take out some of the bulk of the hair. Layering should be shorter around the ears, with heavy bangs. Plan to spend a little time styling this hair cut, unless you have perfect hair. All those layers may have a mind of their own.

In summary, these 4 styles are Sizzling Hot this summer. I wonder what styles will be in this fall. Can it get any better than these 4?

Have a great hair week!

Short Hair Styles

Posted by mickung

Short Hair Styles

Short hair styles are in style this summer and they are more versatile than ever. See examples of many different types of short hair styles. Photo to the left shows a long layered short blonde hair style. Layering is throughout the hair.

To create this style on your own, you must blow dry the hair using a paddle brush. After drying the hair, run a flat iron throughout all the layers, directing the front layers to the side from a deep part.

Finally to finish this style (and keep it in place) you will need to apply some pomade throughout the hair. Pomade will make the layers look piecey and will also do wonders for making the style stay in place.

Stay tuned for more fantastic short hair styles reviews this summer.

Have a great hair day!

Best Hair Styles of the Week- June 5

Sandra Bullock + Keanu ReevesPhotorazzi/Chris Hatcher

Each week Hair Resources selects a new Best Hair Style of the Week. This week the winners are Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves Hair Styles
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves will release a film this summer called The Lake House. And if their hair styles are any indication of how great the movie will be, then it will be a box office hit.
Sandra has a medium-length hair style that features long layers. My guess is that she has very thick hair and needed the long layering to get her hair to lay smooth.

To create this style on your own, first apply a styling product and/or a heat protectant. Begin blow-drying the hair and use a large round brush to direct the layers down and under. Part the hair slightly off-center.

Create smooth hair by running a flat iron from the roots to the ends, smoothing all the long layers down and under. Finally, finish the style by applying a finishing and shine spray.
Keanu also has a great hair style. The length is slightly longer than a short hair style, but not quite a medium hair style. The hair is layered and slightly longer in the crown area.

To create this style on your own, apply a styling creme or gel throughout the hair. Blow-dry the hair and use your fingers to direct the layers and hair into position.

In short, if you want to get a great summer hair style, look to Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves for two great examples of a good and flattering hair styles.

Best Hair Style of The Week- May 30, 2006

This week we have selected two hair styles instead of one. Both of these hair styles have become very popular. They are Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks. Taylor is the winner of the 2006 American Idol competition on Fox, and Katherine is the runner up.

Katherine McPhee: The long curly hair is very much in style and Katherine has made it even more popular. She has mentioned that she had hair extensions attached at some point and just loves the way her hair looks.

To create the Katherine McPhee hair style, you will need to apply a curl-enhancing creme or gel throughout the hair. Then use a blow-dryer with a diffuser attached. Dry the hair using your fingers, or even a large round brush. To add the curls, you can use several different curling irons of varying thickness throughout the hair. The different sizes will help create distinct curls. Or, you could use hot rollers or even velcro rollers to create the curls.

Some methods for creating the curls will take longer to do, or require more skill. So, it really depends what you are comfortable with and how much time you have. For optimum results, just make an appointment at your favorite salon and let the professionals do the work!

Taylor Hicks: Taylor has made gray hair popular. While most people are coloring their hair every month to cover the gray, Taylor is embracing the gray color. Of course, men can get away with the gray hair more than women can. To create the Taylor Hicks hair style, you should apply a styling gel throughout the hair and blow dry the hair normal. It may be helpful to brush the hair in one direction while blow-drying to help it stay in place.

Until next Monday! Have a great Hair Week!

Best Hair Styles

This week's best hair style is Martha Stewart's medium length hair style. Options this spring are even greater as the curly hair style is back in style, along with the ever popular straight long hair style.

This week's Best Hair Style was selected because it is totally different than all the long, curly or straight hair styles you see today. The hair style features lots of layering and is medium in length.

Martha Stewart Hair Styles
Not only is she the queen of cooking (and everything else) but this week she receives the Best Hair Style of the week award.

Her medium length hair style (also seen at http://www.hairresources.com/and http://www.hrhairstyles.com/) features many long layers, starting around the cheekbone level.

Her bangs are kept long and are side-swept. The crown area has a little height in it and the part is on the far side, and somewhat undefined.
Photorazzi/Chris Hatcher

The angles and layers offers a great frame for her face shape and brings out the best of her features. Color and highlights also play a factor in the way the hair style frames her face.

To create this style, apply a volumizing product and blow dry using a round brush. Use the round brush to create a little volume in the crown area.

Finish off the style by running a flat iron from roots to ends and add shine serum. For a variation of this style, flip the ends up slightly with the flat iron.

For extra help in keeping certain strands in place, apply pomade where needed.
In short, medium hair styles that look good or are different than the typical straight look are hard to find. Martha Stewart's hair looks very unique and does a great job of framing and accentuating facial features in a good way.

Top Hair Styles for 2006

10 Most Popular Hair Styles for 2006

By Lance Winslow

In 2005 the most popular hair styles were driven by celebrities, most notably the women actresses on “Sex in the City” and “Friends” and you could go down about any city in America and see look a like hairstyles. Some younger gals were thinking that in 2006 they might wish to imitate Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, although we may see more of a 1970’s hybrid between these of Paris and Britney and a more layered look like back then. Men seemed to be quite content with the James Bond style, long hair let it go style and emulating the various GQ heart throbs of the Silver Screen in 2005.

In 2006 going bald will be the biggest trend, as those who have become enlightened will prove that they do not need to impress anyone with something as silly or ridiculous as a hair cut. For those who do not wish to show their enlightened self, we will see a re-emergence of the Ronald Reagan style hair cut for most men and a few will adopt the “I do not give a damn about you or anyone else” haircut style of shock jock Howard Sterns. For the women who are afraid to cut it all off we will see longer hair with a flared layered look. Not quite the Farah Facet haircut of the late 70’s but along that lines and this will be taking hold towards the end of 2006, mostly due to Hollywood’s influence on the masses. Think on this in 2006.

Why Short Hair Syles Are Sexy!

by Jerico Jens
When browsing the pages of Vogue you will discover many beautiful pictures of long hairstyles, medium length haircuts and short hair cuts. The short hairstyles are yet again invading the hairstyles of the season. Easy to take care of, fun to show off, pixie or short hairstyles can be invigorating and exciting. Shorter hair will benefit longer styles that need volume, body, and hold without being weighed down. We all prefer short hair to all styles though. On a serious note, selecting the proper short hairstyles is a big deal. Check out friends with short hairstyles, talk with your hair stylist, consider how much you really do love your long hair, and decide!
Short hairstyles are cute, fun, easier to handle, and great for a change of pace. There followed a succession of short, head- clinging hair styles inspired by film stars-the page boy of Garbo, the peek-a-boo of Veronica Lake. Try a few short hair style ideas for a fresh new look!
In Africa, many tribes' women have short hair (almost shaved heads) and it's the men who have the braids or more intricate styles.
It is entirely up to you to choose the cute or hot short trendy hair style to be in fashion. A hairstylist is the expert who knows perfectly which type of short hair style will suit your face. But, if it is your first time sporting a short hair cut, always choose a short hair style in guidance of a hair stylist.
For a short trendy hairstyle, you can visit a number of great hair saloons. Short hair was part of a wider style and not its own fashion. Maybe a short hairstyle is right for you! Well cut short hair emphasizes femininity, especially if you get chunky layers and softness cut into the style. This is important for a short hair style.
I love how short hair frames the face and makes the eyes look so big. A long face is best complemented by short hair that is quite full, with a fringe. Consider bangs or partial bangs as part of your ideal hairdo as they work to shorten a long face. A long face is best complemented by short hair that is quite full, with a fringe. It works really good on short or spikey hair, and around the face, I loved it. Face it, short hair is sensual and sexy! With really short hair, it's all about your face.

Spring 2006 Hair Styles Forecast

We often look to celebrities for the latest hair styles and fashion. Of course, most celebrities have top hair stylists and hair care products at their disposal. But many of the popular celebrity hair styles can actually be re-created without a whole lot of fuss.

Celebrity Hair Styles
The ScoopWhat's IN STYLE this spring for hair styles?

Big Hair
Well, there is a major come back of the 'big long hair' look. Women are wearing their hair fuller, with lots of curls and waves. If you don't have long hair, you can opt for the ever popular hair extensions, which involve attaching human or synthetic hair to your natural hair for a natural free-flowing look. There are many free resources on hair extensions available at Hair Resources

Straight Hair
The silky smooth, straight look is still IN STYLE this spring. Many celebrities vary their hair styles between silky smooth, straight to big, curly waves.

Layered Hair
This spring we are seeing more and more layering in just about every hair style. Layering is great for softening up a hair style and making thick hair lay just right. If you decide to get layers cut into your hair style, be sure to allow for a little extra time styling your hair every day. Layers do require a little extra time and hair care products.

Color and Highlights
There is a definite trend of adding highlights, usually in chunks, to hair styles. For extra added effect, try adding a few lowlights (lowlights are a color that is darker than your current hair color in along with the highlights.

There is also a trend among many hair color products to bring out natural highlights and also to add your own highlights.

Bangs
Another trend popping up everywhere is bangs. Many celebrities are adding long, side swept or fringe bangs to their hair style. Bangs are a great way to jazz up your hair style and soften facial features.

Updos
Trends for Updo hair styles this spring include the 'messy look' where most of the hair is pulled up loosely into some sort of chignon and many pieces are left out. Another interesting trend is the ponytail updo. Many celebrities can be seen wearing a high ponytail for formal occasions---how great is that? Get ready for your formal event and spend about two minutes pulling your hair up.

In short, Hair Resources has developed a site devoted to the Top 100 Celebrity Hair Styles of today. If you want to see examples of some of the hair styles described above, get styling information or find hair care products that work, visit Hair Styles, Hair Extensions, Hair Products and more.

Spring is here, and with it comes PROM. Finding the right hair style to wear with your prom dress can be quite challenging.

Read below about some basic PROM hair style tips on how to get the best look.

Prom Hair Style Tips

By John Schwartz

Prom night is obviously one of the most important social events in a teen's life. It combines romance, a party atmosphere, and a sense of saying goodbye to high school and carefree days. Everyone wants their prom experience to come off without a hitch and become a memory they'll cherish for the rest of their lives. For many girls, one aspect of the big night often becomes incredibly important: which prom hair style to choose.

There's more to this decision than you might think. Prom hair styles have to withstand a lot of activity for several hours. Imagine trying to keep a hair style looking great while dancing, rushing around to see friends, and then partying at all of the after-prom parties. Whew! Seen in that light, choosing the best hair style takes more careful planning than you thought, huh?

Formal or Functional?

Probably the biggest decision you have to make is whether to go with a seriously formal hair style for prom, or one that is less formal but more functional and able to handle the frenetic activity without falling apart. It's easier for girls with short hair, of course, but they also have fewer styling options. Teens with longer hair have more options on the formal side, but also then have to deal with more potential problems on prom night - especially after they've been dancing and rushing around for a couple of hours!

So, ultimately your choice of prom hair style comes down to your level of willingness to deal with maintaining the style all night. For many girls, it's important enough to deal with. For others, convenience is a higher priority. If you fall into the first group, a formal updo is a popular hair style for prom. It's a classic look that makes for beautiful prom pictures. If, however, you're more about the dancing and less about the elegance, sweeping your hair back into a ponytail is a great solution, and probably the most common choice.

Get Expert Advice

Whichever direction you go, the best advice is to enlist the help of your hair stylist! If your stylist is good and has been doing the job for more than just a year or two, chances are he or she will have tons of great advice about how you should style your hair for prom. The longer you've been going to that stylist, the better, because he or she will know your preferences and personality well enough to make appropriate suggestions. Together, you should be able to come up with a great choice. Make it easier by looking through magazines and web sites and cutting or printing out pictures of the prom hair styles you like the most. Keep them in a folder and take them with you when you visit your stylist for a consult.

A common mistake many girls make is not planning far enough in advance. You never know what a hair style will look like until you're sporting it. Don't get stuck with one you hate on prom night because you ran out of time! You can easily avoid that disaster by getting with your stylist at least a month before your prom and having him or her try several styles. Have your mom or a friend take pictures from several angles in each style so you can review them later and make a good decision without feeling rushed. When prom night finally arrives, you'll enjoy it a lot more knowing that the hair style you're wearing is the best one for you. No surprises!

Dry Hair And Split Ends

By Kevin Pederson

Using any amount of hot air will cause your hair to dry out. Dry weather and blow drying will strip the hair of its moisture. Shampooing frequently and swimming in chlorinated pools will lead to dry hair and split ends. Hair dyes, electric curlers and permanents cause hair to dry out and have split ends.

To avoid split ends, follow the following tips and keep your hair glossy:

Use mayonnaise: Use a dollop of mayonnaise on the palm of the hand and massage it to the head and leave it on for five minutes before having the bath. The recommended time for the mayonnaise treatment is an hour.

Spray the beer: If you do not get any respite from using the mayonnaise, you can use beer as a good setting lotion that gives your hair the crisp, healthy and shiny look. You can pour some beer into an empty pump bottle and spray on the hair after shampooing and towel dry. Then you can style or blow-dry the hair.

Shampoo minimally: Though it has become fashionable to shampoo daily, it is not advisable to do so. Shampoo strips the hair of its natural oils and thus gives it a dry, limp appearance. Alternatively, choose the shampoo for the dry, damaged hair.

Condition your hair: Dry hair can be benefited greatly by the use of conditioners after shampooing. The outer layers of the hair or cuticles peel away the shaft, resulting in split ends. Conditioner glues these cuticles back to the shaft and lubricates them. It also prevents the static electricity, thus preventing its frizzy appearance.

Avoid heat: The heat appliances like blow-dryers, electric irons and curlers damage the hair. Instead of blow-drying the hair, you can pat dry with a towel. Replace electric curlers with unheated plastic rollers that were used in a bygone era. Straighten the hair by wrapping the slightly damp hair around the cold rollers and leave them on for about ten minutes. To curl the hair or give them a wavy appearance, use sponge rollers overnight or sleep with the moist braids.

Cover your head: Wearing a hat during the windy day is the safest way to protect the hair from drying out. This way, you will also protect your hair from drying out by the sun.

Cut off the split ends: Every six weeks or so, try cutting off the split ends to keep them under control.
