The September issue of Nikkei entertainment magazine published a list of the top 50 manga creators by sales since January of 2010, along with other very interesting statistics:

Eichiro Oda, age 36, is in no doubt the most successful mangaka in the world, at the top of the list with 54 million sales of his trademark manga One Piece.

He is followed by Masashi Kishimoto, also age 36, his classic series Naruto has sold 11 million copies (in 2010 alone).

In the third place is Kimi ni Todoke's author Karuho Shiina, age 35, with 8 million copies sold.

The rest of the list can be seen here,

The average age of a succesful mangaka is around 30-37 years old if you look at the first 15 spots, but I would group it in the 30-40 years old group, which means that it takes quite a few years to train yourself to be a succesful artist and then get ahead with a series that will be picked up by a publishing company at around ages 25-28.

So, for a mangaka, absolute success comes later in life.

In Bakuman, the fact and Mashiro and Shuujin are almost serialized at 17 years old is pure fiction, which doesn't necessarily mean that there can't be manga authors with great talent at that age, but someone like Niizuma Eiji is a stretch of the imagination.

Beelzebub's author, Ryuhei Tamura, came in spot 21 with 2.7 million copies sold.

Yana Toboso, author of Black Butler, came in the 26th, with 2.3 million copies sold.

Author Kazue Kato of the highly acclaimed series Ao no Exorcist, came at spot 31 with 2.2 million copies sold.

And Akiko Higashimura, author of Kuragehime, came at 43th with 1.6 million copies.

Bleach: To end or not to end?

Posted by mickung
Ok, so it's been quite a while since this manga was first published in 1999 and got its anime on 2004.

The story developed, we all fell in love with its unique characters that always offer something for someone, as it has sold thousands of copies in manga and DVDs around the world.

But since one of the main arcs that have motioned the very core of the story of the series came to an end recently in the manga, it's difficult to predict where the series will go. What's left? Bleach GT?

This even has impacted the anime with a rumor that it would end soon, with possibly a break and a relaunch, even the Technical Director couldn't exactly debunk the rumor.

I mean, it's quite obvious, isn't it?

It's interesting how the latest poll in this very blog shows how divided and polarized readers feel right now.

Could Bleach really last 10 more years without losing steam?

Barely 33% of the votes responded with a HELL yeah!, and a really close 32% responded with an absolute NO.
Ahh...nostalgic times

Yet the one important portion of voters is unsure with 'It frightens me' (6%), 'Hmm...not sure how it would turn out?' (11%) and 15% answered 'No way if it turns out like Dragon Ball', which sums still 32%!!!

You know, I'm not really fond of extending stories for the sake of doing so, or for editorial pressure, but I'd still bet on what KuboTaito-sensei has to offer.

After all, the Aizen arc could just well be 'the flashback/backstory' of Kurosaki Ichigo...

There it is, from the man himself.

According to Sankakucomplex's site, "Bleach’s author Tite Kubo is apparently set on keeping Bleach going for at least another 10 years, remarking that it is only halfway through.

Kubo’s remarks were reported by 2ch-frequenting attendees of the recently held Jump Festa, where he took the stage to talk about his creation:
“It’s about halfway through the story at the moment.
[...]
At the very least, I’ll be doing it for another 10 years.”

Another version has him being asked “So will you be keeping it going for the next 30 years?” to which he responds “I think I’d like to make it a bit shorter than that,” with the other speaker quipping that “It should be continuing for at least another 10 years!”

Both accounts agree on him saying he is about half done however, which for a 10-year-old title would rather suggest another 10 years to go.

Reactions to all this are mixed to say the least, ranging from enthused to horrified…"

Well.... O_O as long as it doesn't become Dragon Ball GT, I don't know what to think right now, really.

The official site of the Bleach anime began streaming a 32 second preview of the fourth movie in the series, which its original creator, Tite Kubo, is personally supervising.

This is all very exciting and the movie will come out in Japanese theaters on December 4. The manga will celebrate its 10th year anniversary next year.

This is what the author of Bleach said in an interview regarding Orihime Inoue, the second most impopular character in the Bleach fandom, and added that if people don't like his story and how things are developing around the character, then they can choose to not read it.

This is the link to original interview by 2ch, although it is in Japanese and translation is always difficult.

What do you think? I really have nothing against Inoue-san, it's just that they pumped her too much in the anime, pairing her with Ichigo, in a sort of 'princess and the prince' way.
