Sleek Look part 1!

Posted by mickung
Sorry I haven't posted in a few days, I have been such a busy bee! I had an acting job in Dorset this morning, and spent all yesterday rehearsing. I drove down with the acting team last night to stay in a hotel in preparation for the job today! It was very fun, I really enjoy acting and it is a little hobby of mine when I’m not at uni!
Anyway, on Tuesday night I went to a football match with my Dad and Sister, and I used my sleek storm palette to do my make-up for the evening, as a few of you said it would be good to see how I use the palette. This is a kind of smoky brown shimmery eye which I do the most often with these eye shadows. I will be doing more colourful looks with them soon!

These are the products I used -

  • So I primed my eyes with UDPP and applyed #2 all over my eyelid as a base colour.
  • I then blended #1 and #3 on my lid, up to the crease.
  • Then I blended #4 in the crease of my eye, and blended it up a tad higher so you can see the colour when your eye is open, and I added #5 into the outer corner, just to open the eye up more!
  • After I had blended all the eyeshadows together with my holy grail brush (The Body Shops blender brush), I lined my eyes with The Body Shops black liquid liner, and Gosh’s black velvet kohl liner.
  • I used The Body Shops new mascara ‘Big and Curvy’ on my lashes (Review to come!) and finished with a slick of MAC’s Ever Hip lipstick!
The key to this look is building up the colours from light to dark, and blending, blending, blending! This eye shadow brush I just could not live without, it is a staple brush I use whenever I do my make-up and the only one (apart from a blusher brush) that I carry with me constantly.
Do you like this look? So sorry for my tried looking eyes, I think I have slight insomnia and can’t always sleep too well – that and the fact that I watched Paranormal activities a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to sleep with the light off since! Haha! Was this helpful to you? If you do something similar do show me! You can email it to me via my email address in the sidebar of this page!

New Cid Cosmetics Reviews!

Posted by mickung

I was recently introduced to the New Cid range and I haven’t looked back since.  I think they might just be my new favourite makeup brand!  Read on to see why.

i-glow (Shimmery blush) in Coral Crush

1

When I first starting seeing this on blogs I fell in love.  I knew I needed it in my life and I absolutely adore having it in my possession.  Its absolutely stunning and just perfect for all year round!  Its a shimmery rose gold blush with golden veins running through it which gives you the most beautiful glow.  I’m ill at the moment (I have a cold) but I’ve been wearing this daily and it’s really putting the life back into my dull face.  The compact is handy as it has a big mirror inside.  I just love this blush, it retails at £24, which is pricey but I suspect its going to last forever as its domed shaped and I haven’t even made a dent it yet.  Its also nice and pigmented so you don’t need to use lots!

i-smoulder (Smokey eye pencil and shadow) in Ember

3

Seriously now, New Cid have got it going on.  This product is just GENIUS!  So it has a kohl pencil on one side (shaped skinny one side and thick the other as you can see in the photographs above – perfect for achieving thick or precise lines, see swatches for proof).  And then an eyeshadow on the other end, already on a sponge for easy application!  What more can you ask for!!!?  There is a pressed eyeshadow powder in the lid of the sponged side so that every time you close it and open it, its ready to go and coated with shadow.

These smoulder pens come in ten different shades, ranging from silvers to purples to blue.  What I love doing is applying the shadow all over my top lid, then lining my eyes with the pencil.  You can even apply the pencil and then smudge the shadow over the top for a gorgeous and easy smokey look.  £17.50 – great investment I think, especially for when your travelling, you don’t have to carry around multiple products.

i-flick (Double ended liquid and kohl liner)

2

Why isn’t every makeup brand doing this?!  Another genius product, a liquid and kohl liner in one, pretty self explanatory but incredible for someone like me who uses both liquid and pencil eyeliner daily.  This has really helped me narrow down my makeup bag when out and about.  The liquid side has a felt tip like nib, but better because its moveable so it allows you to easily line and follow the shape of your eye (if that makes sense?).  £18.50 and only available in black I believe.

i-groom (Eyebrow grooming pencil)

4

My new favourite eyebrow grooming product.  This has a eyebrow pencil on one side and a grooming brush on the other.  Normally I just pencil my brows in and always forget to comb them because I can’t be bothered digging the comb out, but with this it makes it so easy as they are together.  This only comes in ONE shade (Neutral), and it apparently matches everyone!  I think this is true – my eyebrows are really dark and it still fills them in perfectly.  The pencil has a waxy texture so your brows stay in place all day and its very gentle so its almost impossible to over do it with this, but easy to build up.  Again, a slanted pencil so that you can achieve thick or skinny lines.  £15.50.

i-gloss (Light up gloss with mirror) (shade Honey Pot).

5

I think this may be the prettiest lipgloss I own.  I have the shade ‘Honey Pot’ which is absolutely perfect for everyday use because its neutral but with gorgeous gold shimmer undertones to it.  The applicator is a brush instead of a sponge which is fab and the brush also lights up when you apply it for easy application (you can see the lights in the photograph above!).  The case also has a mirror on the side.  I’ve been trialling this on top of every lipstick I own and it suits them all. £16.

(will review primer in a separate post!)

What I think: If you can’t tell by all my gushing I am now a complete New Cid Cosmetic fan, I honestly can’t find any faults with any of the products I have tried.

The fact that they are all perfect for use on the go is just perfect (especially for me who travels between my flat in London & my family home in Essex every week).  The prices may look a bit expensive at first, but if you think about it you’d probably pay £10 for an eyeshadow and £6 for a kohl pencil anyway.

Are you eyeing any of these products up?  What’s your favourite ‘on-the-go’ product?

Sleek Bad Girl Swatches

Posted by mickung

When this palette first starting making its debut on beauty blogs I knew I had to have it!  I rushed out to Superdrug to pick it up and I’m so glad I did.

I think that if I could create my very own smokey palette, it probably would have been identical to this!!  The colours are all ones that I would use on myself on a night out, Sleek did very well here in my opinion.

Top Row – Innocence, Gullible, Blade, Gun Metal, Underground, Noir

Bottom row – Intoxicated, Envy, Obnoxious, Abyss, Twilight, Rebel

2

My favourites are Blade, Gun Metal, Intoxicated and Twilight, although all are beautiful and I can see myself using them all.  Certain colours in this palette really remind me of my Kat Von D palette (which you can view here) which is also one of my favourite eye shadows sets.  I’m also delighted that they bought this out as its very similar to the Graphite palette they released a while ago, which was limited edition and I didn’t manage to get it – they shades are very similar, so I’m happy!

IMG_0549

What I think - I like the fact that Sleek are now coming to terms with the fact that the public want the eye shadows in their palettes named, so now we can easily identify them.  All shadows are beautifully pigmented and for £5.99 the quality again is fantastic.  Sleek is fast becoming one of my favourite makeup brands, if only they would start replying to my emails – (I’ve sent them about 5, none of which have been replied to yet!).  I’m glad to say this palette is also becoming permanent, so there's lots of time for you to go out and grab yours.  I’ll do some nice dramatic smokey eye looks with them when I have a break from Uni!

Have you got this palette yet? What are your favourite colours and would you like to see some looks created with this set?

Tutorial – Easy Smokey Eyes!

Posted by mickung

Today I will talk you through my ‘signature’ smokey black look.  I wear this look almost everyday I’ll admit that I feel naked without it!  I wore this look to the Edward Bess launch last week and had some compliments on it and a few of the girlies wanted to know how I did it and persuaded me to do a tutorial, so here it is!

1

I’ve created diagrams showing the 6 steps I use to complete this look so hopefully it’ll be easy to follow at home.

tutoral2

1. Start by applying primer to a clean eye, I use Urban Decay’s Primer potion.

2. Apply a light base colour.  I use MACs Nylon, it is my favourite base colour as it suits every other colour, it goes with browns, greens, blue etc.  Its a beautiful shimmery golden as you can see in the pics above!

3. Then apply a darker shade in the crease of your eye and create a ‘<’ shape on the outer edge of your eye to open it up.  Here I’ve used The Body Shops eye shadow in #42.  Again, use any colour, I normally use MACs Beauty Marked.

4. Apply a liquid or gel liner to your top lash line, you can make this thick or thin as you like and you can draw on a cat flick as well to give the illusion of longer eyelashes and larger eyes.

5.  Apply a black kohl pencil onto your lower lash line and waterline.  I use Gosh’s velvet touch kohl, its super smooth, lasts all day and is very affordable.  This line doesn’t need to be neat at all – I often use a smudger brush (from TBS) to smudge this line to make it more smokey.

6.  Apply mascara to top and bottom lashes, I’ve used TBS’ super volume mascara.  Last but not least, apply a tab of your shimmery base colour on the inside of your eye socket, to open your eyes up and to brighten them!

And Voila!

voila

This look takes me literally 5 minutes as I’m so used to doing it, but when I’m going out in the evening I like to add more different shades and colours to build the look up!

IMG_0123_pp

Finish with your favourite blusher and a sweep of lipstick.  Here I used TBS blush in 05 Tea Rose and MAC’s Porcelain pink, with a slick of Jazzed lippie!  (Sorry for the bad hair – I’ve been so lazy and haven’t brushed it today – ew! Haha!)

Posted by mickung

I’m ILL!! I hate being ill, I have cold and flu symptoms and they just came out of nowhere!  Does anyone have any good tips for getting over colds quickly? I’ve already stocked up one Vit C tablets and hankys!

Lately I’ve been experimenting a bit with make-up and taking some some portraits!  I have some make-up skillz and photography skillz and I never use them together, so I thought why not!

This first look was inspired by Beyonce’s new video – (Why Don’t you Love me?) In which her make-up is gorgeous and she looks just stunning!

HEYY GIRLIES!

I have something very very exciting to show off to you all today! The Body Shops new Limited edition Summer Trend make-up. I am SO excited to show you all this, cause I fell in love with the range as soon as I saw it all!

I only have two pieces from the range which I will show you and swatch today.

MAY HAUL 019

02 Eye Colour in Moonstone & 02 Bronze : Warm glow

How beautiful are they! And you will not believe how stunning the rest of the range is. It includes of three eye shadows and two bronzers, which look mineralized and baked and beautiful, so much so that I don’t want to use them, just stare at them all day! There is a bronzey/gold eyeshadow, as well as a stunning green ‘Jade’ colour which I am definitely picking up too. The other bronzer is slightly darker than this one, but as I am pale I chose the lighter shade.

The packaging is sleek, clear and handy as you can see the colour through the packaging.

MAY HAUL 032 MAY HAUL 029

Moonstone has got to be my new favourite eye shadow to create a smokey sultry look. I haven't got a swatch of Warm glow as its more of a highlighter and I couldn’t capture the beautiful glow on camera. I will post pictures asap of what they look like on. The eye shadow is very pigmented and I just adore all the shades of grey and silver which runs throughout the shadow.

MAY HAUL 026 02 Warm Glow Bronze

MAY HAUL 027 02 Moonstone Eye shadow

These are released in stores on Thursday 6th May, that's two days so go check them out then! What do you think of the colours and the sexy mineralized look? I can’t wait to buy the others!

P.S Both products were bought with my own money!
